$800 South Carolina Tax Rebates – When Will You Get Your Money?

South Carolina residents, you know now that you have a tax rebate of up to $800 coming. What if you haven’t received yours yet? There are a few rules regarding who is eligible and when the rebates will arrive. Here is what you need to know.

Most importantly, you must have filed a South Carolina tax return for 2021. If you did not, you are not eligible for this rebate.

If you did file a 2021 South Carolina tax return, see this chart below to see if you qualify.

If you do qualify and your mailing address or banking information remains the same since when you filed your 2021 SC state income tax return, then you’re all set! You have no further requirements or steps to receive your $800 rebate check or deposit.

When Will My Rebate Arrive?

According to South Carolina, the refunds are issued in rounds:

  • The first round of these $800 refunds being sent is for 2021 tax returns filed on or before Monday, October 17, 2022. That was the extended due date for 2021 tax returns.
  • The second round of rebates up to $800 are for 2021 tax returns filed after October 18, 2022, but no later than February 15, 2023.
  • The (up to) $800 rebate is not available if you file your 2021 state return after February 15, 2023.

You can always find your rebate status online at the state’s MyDORWAY site. Make sure to have your 2021 SC Form 1040 tax return nearby because you will need your tax information from the document.

If you expect a check to be mailed, but your mailing address has changed, you must first update your SC tax profile. You can either:

  • Log onto MYDORWAY, and instantly correct your new mailing address there; or
  • Complete and submit a South Carolina Form SC8822I. You can email it to TaxSupport@dor.sc.gov, or mail it to the address on the form instructions.

Stay tuned because next week, we will discuss how receiving this rebate will affect your federal taxes!
